These imbue the city with a genteel charm unique in Southeast Asia. Its favorable situation, at the confluence of three major rivers - the Mekong, the Tonle Sap and the Bassac River - continues to encourage its steady settlement and growth. Phnom Penh was long considered the fairest of France’s oversea colonial cities and in spite of its recent troubles; the city retains a large measure of this appeal. Wide boulevards, ramshackle buildings in the French and lush avenues of shady trees are prominent features of Phnom Penh‘s cityscape. 12h00 arrival at Phnom Penh, transfer to hotel check in and lunch at local restaurant. After lunch proceed to Phnom Penh City tour: The Royal Palace. Visitors are only allowed to visit the palace’s Silver Pagoda and its surrounding compound. The National Museum of Khmer Art & Archeology (also known by the French, “Musee des Beaux-Arts” or the “Musee Albert Sarraut”) is considered one of the finest museums of classical Cambodia art in the world. Wat Phnom has the legend that in 1372 Lady Penh (Yeay Penh) fished a floating KOKI tree out of the river. Inside of the tree there were four Buddha statues. She built a hill (Phnom means hill) and a small temple (Wat) at the site of what is now known aster the hill (Phnom) and its creator (Penh), hence Phnom Penh. Cambodian Culture museum and Killing Fields memorial. Central Market boosts the 5th largest dome in the world and comprises 4 halls offering a wide range of imported & local products. Overnight in Phnom Penh.
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch
Day 13: Phnom Penh - Siem Reap
After breakfast, transfer to Phnom Penh International Airport and departure by Siem Reap Airways International or similar to Siem Reap. Arrive at Siem Reap International Airport and transfer to the hotel (rooms may not ready until the afternoon).
In the morning, visit Prasat Kravan with its unique brick sculptures and Ta Prohm. One of the area's most beautiful temples, Ta Prohm has been relatively untouched since it was discovered and retains much of its mystery. Its appeal lies in the fact that, unlike the other monuments of Angkor, it was abandoned and swallowed by the jungle, looking very much the ways most of the Angkor temples appeared when European explorers first stumbled upon them. Visit as well Takeo, Chau Say Tevoda and Thommanon.
Visit Preah Khan temple. Built by the King Jayavarman VII, Preah Khan is, like Ta Prohm, a place of towered enclosures and shoulders-hanging corridors. Unlike Ta Prohm, however, Preah Khan is in a reasonable state of preservation and ongoing restoration efforts should maintain and even improve this situation. Continue your visits to Neak Pean, a fountain built in the middle of a pool and representing the paradisiacal Himalayan mountain-lake and visit the temple of Ta Som as well as Srah Srang ("The Royal Baths"), undoubtedly used in the past for ritual bathing. Overnight in Siem Reap.
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch
Day 14: Siem Reap Angkok Tours
Today, we start with the most famous of all the temples on the plain of Angkor: Angkor Wat. Angkor Wat is one of the world's most stunning buildings. Angkor was the capital of Khmer that existed from 802 to 1431. Its distinctive five towers are emblazoned on the Cambodian flag and the 12th century masterpiece is considered by art historians to be the prime example of classical Khmer art and architecture. Angkor Wat's five towers symbolize Meru's five peaks - the enclosed wall represents the mountains at the edge of the world and the surrounding moat, the ocean beyond.
After lunch, visit the ancient capital of Angkor Thom (12th century). The sightseeing tour of Angkor area we spend a full day exploring the wondrous ancient ruins with the South Gate of Angkor Thom, which is famous for its series of colossal human faces carved in stone, the impressive Bayon Temple, the Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, the Elephant Terrace, the Terrace of the Leper King and the largest as well as the most complete temple of Angkor Wat. In the evening, we enjoy the beautiful sunset at Phnom Bakeng hill top. Diner at local restaurant with traditional dance show. Overnight in Siem Reap.
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Destination Info

Mausoleum Uncle HoThe Socialist Republic of Vietnam is the easternmost country on the Indochina Peninsula in Southeast Asia. It is bordered by China to the north, Laos to the northwest, Cambodia to the southwest, and the South China Sea to the east. With a population of over 86 million, Vietnam is the 13th most populous country in the world.
The people of Vietnam regained independence and broke away from China in AD 938 after their victory at the Battle of B?ch Ð?ng River (938). Successive dynasties flourished along with geographic and political expansion deeper into Southeast Asia, until it was colonized by the French in the mid-19th century. Efforts to resist the French eventually led to their expulsion from the country in the mid-20th century, leaving a nation divided politically into two countries. Fighting between the two sides continued during the Vietnam War, ending with a Communist victory in 1975.
Emerging from this prolonged military engagement, the war-ravaged nation was politically isolated. The government’s centrally planned economic decisions hindered post-war reconstruction and its treatment of the losing side engendered more resentment than reconciliation. In 1986, it instituted economic and political reforms and began a path towards international reintegration. By 2000, it had established diplomatic relations with most nations. Its economic growth had been among the highest in the world in the past decade. These efforts culminated in Vietnam joining the World Trade Organization in 2007 and its successful bid to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council in 2008.
The Kingdom of Cambodia is a country in South East Asia with a population of over 13 million people. The kingdom's capital and largest city is Phnom Penh. Cambodia is the successor state of the once powerful Hindu and Buddhist Khmer Empire, which ruled most of the Indochinese Peninsula between the eleventh and fourteenth centuries.
A citizen of Cambodia is usually identified as "Cambodian" or "Khmer," though the latter strictly refers to ethnic Khmers. Most Cambodians are Theravada Buddhists of Khmer extraction, but the country also has a substantial number of predominantly Muslim Cham, as well as ethnic Chinese, Vietnamese and small animist hill tribes.
The country borders Thailand to its west and northwest, Laos to its northeast, and Vietnam to its east and southeast. In the south it faces the Gulf of Thailand. The geography of Cambodia is dominated by the Mekong river (colloquial Khmer: Tonle Thom or "the great river") and the Tonlé Sap ("the fresh water lake"), an important source of fish.
Cambodia's main industries are garments, tourism, and construction. In 2007, foreign visitors to Angkor Wat numbered more than 4 million. In 2005, oil and natural gas deposits were found beneath Cambodia's territorial waters, and once commercial extraction begins in 2011, the oil revenues could profoundly affect Cambodia's economy.
