DAY 01: SIEM REAP ARRIVAL
On arrival at Siem Reap Airport, you are met by our local representative and transferred to your hotel. This is simply an arrival day, so you may arrive in Siem Reap at any time. Please note that hotel rooms are generally available for check-in only after midday. The rest of your day is free to explore your surroundings. In the evening you meet your tour leader and the other members of your group for a pre-tour briefing. Please check the notice board at the hotel reception for confirmation of the exact time and place of the meeting (usually 6pm at the hotel's lobby or restaurant). Overnigh in Siem Reap.
Meals included: None

DAY 02: SIEM REAP - ANGKOR WAT TOUR
AM: Siem Reap is our base for visiting the world famous temples of the ancient city of Angkor, home to the powerful Khmer Empire that held sway from 802 AD to 1350 AD. We rise early this morning to visit the largest and most breathtaking temple of the Angkor complex, Angkor Wat - the only Angkorian temple with its entrance facing to the west (the others face east). The reason for this is that it was constructed as a funerary temple for King Suryavarman II and a westerly countenance was seen to represent a sunset (including a 'sunset' of life'). In the middle of the day we avoid the heat and crowds and to return to the comfort of our hotel in Siem Reap, where we can enjoy a leisurely lunch and relax around the hotel's swimming pool before tackling more temples.
PM: This afternoon we visit Angkor Thom, the Great Royal City, which is famous for its series of colossal human faces carved in stone. The impressive Bayon temple is the centerpiece of all this. Late in the day we watch for the sunset at Pre Rup Temple. Stay overnight at hotel in Siem Reap.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

DAY 03: SIEM REAP
Today we make another early morning start to visit Ta Prohm - an incredible temple complex with large trees embedding themselves in the stone foundations of the structure, giving the impression of man's creation being reclaimed by the powerful forces of nature. We also visit another temple complex that has been largely reclaimed by the jungle, Preah Khan, which contains a maze of vaulted corridors. Other temple complexes visited include Banteay Kdei, Sras Srang and Eastern Mebon. The temples we visit today are sure to inspire and all day long we have many fantastic opportunities to take some evocative and unique photos. Overnight at hotel in Siem Reap.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

DAY 04: SIEM REAP - BANTEAY SREI
AM: This morning we travel approximately 25 kilometers north of Siem Reap to Banteay Srei, famous for its detailed and intricate stone carvings. It is not a big temple, but has often been referred to as the 'jewel in the crown of Angkorian art’.
PM: This afternoon we also have time to shop in the markets or maybe enjoy a relaxing massage before taking a boat cruise on Tonle Sap Lake, the largest in South East Asia. Here we have unique opportunities to photograph a Vietnamese floating fishing village, located near Phnom Krom. Overnight at hotel in Siem Reap.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

DAY 05: SIEM REAP - PHNOM PENH
We leave Siem Reap this morning and make our way south, along National Road 6, to Phnom Penh. En route, we stop at an ancient pre-Angkorian bridge at Kompong Kdei to photograph the naga serpents forming balustrades across the bridge. We also stop at the town of Skuon, where the local inhabitants are noted for their love of eating spiders! Our route roughly follows the course of the Tônlé Sap River. The source of the Tônlé Sap River is the shallow Tônlé Sap Lake. Numerous streams feed the lake and drain into the Mekong River just south of Phnom Penh. During the wet monsoon season of June to November, the high waters of the Mekong River reverse the flow of the Tônlé Sap River and increase the size of the lake from around 2600 to 10,400 square kilometers, as the river flows back into the lake. As it begins to recede again, the lake’s huge stocks of fish are easily trapped in nets and bamboo traps or simply caught in the branches of trees. Overnight in Phnom Penh.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

DAY 06: PHNOM PENH
AM: The bloody rule of the Khmer Rouge is a painful but unavoidable part of Cambodia's recent history and visits to the Tuol Sleng Prison Museum and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek tell the story of this tragic legacy. (Note: these sites are a major part of sightseeing in Phnom Penh; however, if you do not wish to visit either of them or find them too overwhelming, please inform your tour leader.)
PM: A free afternoon allows us to explore the sights of Phnom Penh, a city that lies near the confluence of the Mekong and the Tonle Sap Rivers. Along the palm-fringed riverfront, a number of French-era shops and villas still exist and the spires of the Royal Palace pierce the skyline. We can also find the city’s best gold and silver merchants at the bustling Central Market. Overnight at hotel in Phnom Penh.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

DAY 07: PHNOM PENH
Today we visit the Phnom Penh Cyclo Center, an organization that provides washing facilities, medical care and opportunities for cyclo drivers to learn a variety of skills. The drivers take us on a short tour of the city. In the evening we meet for a group dinner at the famous Foreign Correspondents Club of Cambodia - a great way to end our time in Phnom Penh. We also have time here to share our photos from the last few days and absorb the views from our vantage point overlooking the Tonle Sap River. Stay overnight at hotel in Phnom Penh.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 08: PHNOM PENH - CHAU DOC
The morning we drive south along National Road 2 through the town of Takeo and on to the Cambodian-Vietnamese border point at Tinh Bien. (Please note that a Vietnamese visa must be obtained prior to joining this tour, as it is impossible to obtain one at the border). At the border crossing we say goodbye to our Cambodian tour leader and meet our Vietnamese tour leader. We then continue by road around the base of Sam Mountain and to our final destination, Chau Doc, a trading town and an active place, due to its proximity to the border. The market area runs along the Bassac River (a tributary of the Mekong River) and sells black market goods smuggled in from Cambodia. Homes are built over metal netting and their inhabitants are kept busy producing enormous amounts of food to feed the thousands of fish being bred. The Victoria Chau Doc Hotel provides a wonderful platform from where we can observe the interesting lifestyle of the local people going about their business along the river. Overnight in Chau Doc.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

DAY 09: CHUA DOC - CAN THO
AM: Chau Doc is home to an ancient Muslim community known as the Cham Bani. Today we enjoy a boat cruise on the Bassac River and visit a Cham village, a mosque, a floating fish farm, as well as witness a local handicraft display of silk weaving.
PM: We continue our journey through the Mekong Delta to Can Tho, where we spend the night. A late afternoon drink at sunset, by the river, is not to be missed. Overnight at hotel in Can Tho.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

DAY 10: CAN THO - HO CHI MINH CITY
This morning is an early start as we take a boat from the pier at our hotel along a tributary of the Mekong River to the colorful and bustling Cai Rang Floating Market – the largest floating market in the Mekong Delta. After visiting the market we return to our hotel for lunch and a chance for further relaxation before driving to Sai Gon. Check in hotel on arrival and free at your leisure to explore the city. Overnight at hotel in Sai Gon.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

DAY 11: HO CHI MINH CITYT TOUR
A city tour of Sai Gon includes a visit to the colorful and bustling Binh Tay wholesale market in Cholon (Chinatown), Thien Hau Pagoda, Reunification Palace, War Remnants Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral and Central Post Office. Along the way we get the chance to photograph the many faces of this ever changing city, from its French colonial structures to its more modern aspects. Overnight at hotel in Ho Chi Minh city.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

DAY 12: HO CHI MINH - TAY NINH - CU CHI TUNNELS
This morning we drive west of Sai Gon to Tay Ninh Province, where we witness a colorful midday mass for one of the most interesting and bizarre of Vietnam’s religion, Caodaism. The Cao Dai Great Temple was built between 1933 and 1955 and is a cross between a Catholic church, a Buddhist pagoda, a Confucian temple and an Antonio Gaudi building. On the way back to Ho Chi Minh City we stop to visit the Cu Chi Tunnels, which played such a key role in the Vietnam War, and the Wildlife at Risk Animal Rescue Center. Overnight at hotel in Ho Chi Minh city.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

DAY 13: HO CHI MINH DEPARTURE
Our trip ends today after breakfast. We are transferred to Sai Gon's Tan Son Nhat International Airport to catch our flight home.
